Anecoica

Overview

Anecoica is a 2023 psychological thriller short film directed by Marcos Callejo. The film follows Ana, a woman who agrees to take part in an illegal experiment in which she is locked inside an anechoic chamber in exchange for a financial reward. As the silence intensifies, it gradually becomes her greatest enemy. I worked on the sound design alongside Jaime Gascón, my partner at Who Sounds, creating the sonic environment around the film's central concept of absolute silence. The challenge was to make silence itself feel present, using subtle details, internal sounds and carefully controlled dynamics to reflect Ana's growing unease and psychological deterioration. The sound design plays with the contrast between near silence and sudden sonic events, building tension while keeping the audience closely connected to Ana's increasingly distorted perception of her surroundings.
